Operation and control of a Current Source Converter series tapping of an LCC-HVDC link for integration of Offshore Wind Power Plants

چکیده
This work presents a series tapping station for integrating Offshore Wind Power Plants (OWPP) into a (Line Commutated Converter High Voltage Direct Current) LCCHVDC transmission system. The tapping station allows to integrate wind power resources without building a new HVDC link and it is based on a Current Source Converter (CSC). However, the CSC requires a minimum DC current to extract the power coming from the OWPP which may not be guaranteed depending on the power conditions of the HVDC corridor. For this reason, this paper proposes a coordinated operation and control of the CSC and the OWPP. A steady-state analysis is performed to determine the appropriate AC voltage level of the CSC. A power reduction algorithm is presented to limit power extraction during a reduction in the current of the HVDC transmission system and under loss of communications between the CSC and the OWPP. The proposed algorithm and the performance of the system are validated through simulation results

Review on Hybrid HVDC Technology for Integration of Offshore Wind Power Plant
VSC HVDC will be the most important approach for transmitting the power of large-scale offshore wind power plant in the near future. In recent literature, the feasibility of using hybrid type HVDC for offshore wind transmission has been discussed. A hybrid HVDC system has at one line commutated converter (LCC) at mainland and one voltage source converter (VSC) at offshore platform, which may in...

Nowadays, propagation of wind turbines make challenges to supply safe power to the grid. Because of wind speed changes, supervisors are concerned to wind turbines, be able to produce appropriate electric power during the wind speed changes. As a matter of fact, investors are mostly like to invest on offshore wind farms, because of their more stable and continuous wind speed rather than onshore ...

This paper proposes a fundamental and efficient control technique for introducing VSC (voltage source converter)based HVDC (high voltage direct current) transmission into a large-scale offshore wind power generation system with DFIGs (doubly-fed induction generators). The electric power from the offshore wind turbine DFIG is considerably fluctuating and unstable, and needs to be transmitted fro...

Most of the wind power plants currently installed at North Sea are near to shore connected with the onshore grid through AC cable. AC transmission technology is proven and reliable, but there will be a need to switch from AC to DC transmission since large number of offshore power plants at longer distance to shore are expected to be installed by the end of 2020. Furthermore, to enhance the inte...
